Resources for Pregnant Women and New Moms in West Island

Are you a new mom living on the west island of Montreal, or expecting a baby soon and looking for things to do on your upcoming maternity leave? Along with my extensive resource list for Montreal, I’ve compiled a list of resources for those of you in the Dorval, Pointe Claire, Kirkland, and Vaudreuil areas because it’s such a popular place for new families to live and there are many resources out there- Fairview mall doesn’t need to be your only destination!

Moms Near Me www.momsnearme.com
An online and real life community offering activities at the Valois United Church in Pointe Claire. I know quite a few friends who have benefited from the amazing variety of mommy and me classes offered there. Yoga, music, fitness and infant massage- they’ve got so many things lined up in their weekly schedule to keep new moms busy. They also have a very active Facebook page that you can join to meet other local moms and keep up to date on west island family activities.

West Island Women’s Center www.wiwc.ca
The WIWC is a wonderful resource for a variety of reasons- first off they offer lots of classes for moms and babies. Among the options – mom and tots gym, mom and baby yoga, dance classes for mom and baby and a variety of other classes to do with your baby from 0-24 months. They also offer kids classes, but the real kicker is that they offer classes for adults and free childcare for you while you take a class. I can’t stress how great it can be to just recharge your batteries by hanging out with some other adults for a an hour or two. I took a painting class when my older son was a baby and it was great to have time for myself- it made me a better parent, for sure. WIWC is located at 11 Rodney, Pointe Claire, H9R 4L8.

La Leche League- Pointe-Claire Group
LLL is an international breastfeeding support organization with chapters in almost every community. Pointe-Claire has a drop-in group where expectant and new moms can go for support, friendship, discussion and help with breastfeeding issues.

West Island Kids www.westislandkids.com
A great online resource page where you can find out about all the indoor playgrounds, which are great in the winter if you have older kids to entertain as well. We’ve been to Fundomondo in Point Claire and Zig Zag Zoo in Vaudreuil and the kids love them. This website also has great tips on local museums, places to book a party animator on the west island and many more subjects. A very informative site.

Waterfront Parks along Lakeshore Boulevard (Heritage Route)
We have always loved the bike paths, walking paths and parks along the St Lawrence and this is a great destination for new moms. Call a friend, spend the day walking along the water, have a picnic, hang out with your baby on a blanket in the shade. It truly is a perfect location for relaxing- and it’s free!

Cap St Jacques Nature Park- Ville de Montreal site
One of my favorite summer destinations, it’s so close yet feels so far. Follow the signs for Chemin St Marie, head down Chemin de L’Anse a L’Orme and you’re almost there. It is a spectacular beach, with hiking paths and so much more. We love how huge the beach area is and there’s always shade to be found. A quick and easy day spent lounging by the water.
